New State Senator Sworn in for District 16


Antoinette Sedillo Lopez, legislative director for the New Mexico Coalition Against Domestic Violence, has been selected and sworn in as the state senator for District 16.

Antoinette Sedillo Lopez, a former UNM Law School professor and recent U.S. congressional candidate, was chosen by the Bernalillo County Commission at a special meeting and immediately sworn into office by County Clerk Linda Stover.

Sen. Sedillo Lopez replaces Cisco McSorley who resigned on Jan. 8 to serve in Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s administration.

The New Mexico Legislature begins a 60-day session on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Sen. Sedillo Lopez was approved by the County Commission on a 5 to 0 vote.
