Alameda Drain Trail and Public Art Dedication

07/31/2019

On Aug. 1, 2019, the new Alameda Drain Trail and "Outpost" Public Art  works were dedicated on a renovated trail that spans one mile on north 2nd Street between Montano and Osuna. The fun-filled morning included a trolley ride of the trail and light refreshments. You can view a slideshow of the event below.

The newly renovated trail spans one mile on north Second Street between Montano and Osuna Roads. Trail improvements include construction of a shared-use trail along the Alameda Drain, landscaping and other trail amenities, as well as water-quality features at existing storm water outfalls to the drain. The pedestrian and bicycle trails are enhanced by permanent sculptures installed along the trail route. By the end of this year, there will be a total of five “Outposts” sculptures along the trail.

“Phase one of the Alameda Drain Trail and the accompanying five-piece ‘Outposts’ sculptures are another beautiful example of the quality of life that BernCo is committed to providing for the community,” says Bernalillo County Commissioner Debbie O’Malley. “And, there is more to come, phase 2 of the trail is beginning design now.”

The “Outposts” sculptures are possible through the county’s 1% for the Arts program. This initiative takes 1% of all general obligation bonds and makes those funds available for the purchase of public art. The county currently owns more than 400 pieces of art, which are located throughout county facilities.
