National Corrections Officer Week Acknowledged by BernCo Board of Commissioners

    05/08/2018

The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners recognized May 6–12, 2018, as National Correctional Officers Employee Week at its administrative meeting on Tuesday, May 8.

National Correctional Officers and Employees Week, held annually during the first full week in May, is an appreciation of correctional officers and all personnel who work in jails, prisons and community corrections nationwide.

Corrections officers, employees and volunteers in Bernalillo County strive to provide secure facilities and safe communities each day, protecting residents from offenders, and helping rehabilitate inmates into productive members of society.

Bernalillo County corrections officers are not simply “guards”; they are a diverse, professional staff, who simultaneously fill custodial, supervisory and counseling roles at the Metropolitan Detention Center and the Youth Services Center.

Each day Bernalillo County corrections workers, in a vast array of roles, put their safety on the line to ensure public safety.

We thank all officers, employees and volunteers who serve in corrections in our community for their continued dedication to rehabilitation and security in county facilities and recognize their dedication and sacrifice.
