Additions are being made to the Bernalillo County public art collection!

The Bernalillo County Public Art Program  has accepted a donation of a sculpture titled “Kinship I.” (see below).

The sculpture is the result of a collaborative effort of local artists who call themselves 9 x 9 who are retired Albuquerque Public Schools, Sandia Preparatory School, and Albuquerque Academy art teachers.

The artists are: Chris Bull, Cecily Colbert, Lauri Dickinson, Mary Dornacker, Peter Fitzpatrick, Joani Murphy, Santiago Perez, Larry Smith, and Jeannette Williams. “Kinship I” is comprised of metals, stoneware clays, stones, glass, mica, and wood products. Bernalillo County will install “Kinship I” at the South Valley Multipurpose Senior Center.

The county is also purchasing four paintings by Thomas Christopher Haag (see right)  and three mixed media pieces by Lindsey Fromm (see below).

Additionally, five mural paintings inspired by wildlife ecozones at Valle del Oro by artist Francesca Searer, Nani Chacon, Erin De Rosa, Jessica Chao, and Haley Greenfeather English have been commissioned and are being supported by the Bernalillo County Public Arts Program.

Once completed, the murals will be displayed at the entries to field areas of the refuge. At a later date the pieces will be accessioned into the Public Art’s permanent collection as well as replicated for additional promotion and display in county facilities.

A retaining wall near the intersection of Coors Boulevard and Blake Road in the south valley of Bernalillo County will become a Working Classroom art project. Lead artists Izabelle Fernandez and Josh Patterson along with students from Working Classroom will paint the mural during the summer of 2019. The youth will be employed as apprentices on the project. The Blake Road Neighborhood Association and the South Valley Academy requested the mural for the wall to accent the recently completed redevelopment project in the area.
