Commissioners Recognize 21st Century Public Academy Student Council

On Jan. 14, 2020, the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners recognized the 21st Century Public Academy Student Council for organizing a school-wide donations drive to provide critical materials to survivors of domestic violence and rescued animals in need in Bernalillo County.

From Nov. 18 through Dec. 13, 2019, the 20 students of the Student Council of 21st Century Public Academy hosted a donations drive at the school for local services, Women of Domestic Violence and the Bernalillo County Animal Care and Resource Center. The Student Council also organized a friendly competition between the homeroom classes of the academy, to encourage contributions from all students.

After three weeks of gathering donations, the 21st Century Public Academy gathered five boxes of materials for Women of Domestic Violence, and three boxes for the Animal Care Center. Over 400 items were received for domestic violence aid, including such materials as desperately needed dental supplies. The Student Council’s donations drive was a great success, greatly surpassing the previous year.

Their service and commitment has provided comfort to many rescued animals and survivors of domestic violence.
