Commissioner Quezada and Community Join Together to Pull Weeds This Saturday

District 2 County Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada along with members of the community will pull unsightly weeds along the south Second Street corridor this Saturday, July 20 from 9 - 11 a.m.

BernCo recently completed major improvements to the south Second Street corridor including:

  • design and construction of a multi-use trail from the Valle de Oro Wildlife Refuge entrance to Mountain View Elementary School
  • construction of sidewalks along the west side of Second Street
  • installing storm drainage
  • reconstruction of Second Street from the Valle de Oro Wildlife Refuge entrance to Desert Road
  • realignment of the Desert Road and Second Street intersection

Spring and summer rains have created ideal conditions for abundant weed growth and have put the landscape contractor a little behind in maintaining weed control of the south Second Street corridor, a distance of about four miles.

“Living in the desert, we are always grateful for the rainfall. However, along with rains, comes the weeds. Major beautification and landscaping efforts have been made to this southwest corridor and we would like to keep it that way,” says Commissioner Quezada. “This Saturday morning, I and over 50 West Mesa and South Valley high school students will be investing in our community to accomplish that.”

Residents interested in volunteering in the community effort can just show up on Saturday, July 20 at the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority facility located at 4201 Second St. SW, south gate. Equipment and supplies will be provided.
