County Commission Picks Company to Manage the Proposed Route 66 Visitors Center

04/10/2019

The Bernalillo County Commission has chosen West Central Community Development Group as operator/management services for the proposed Route 66 Visitors Center to be built near I-40 and Atrisco Vista Boulevard on the county’s far West Side.

During the design and construction phases of the property, West Central Community Development Group will work on an exhibit masterplan for the building to include museum quality artwork that will support the mission of education and outreach.

“This is a community driven project, based on community input and will be first thing motorists see coming into the county from the west,” says District 2 County Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada. “This will be a great chance to see great art, learn about the city and county and experience some great views of the valley and the Sandia Mountains.”

The West Central Community Development Group will also work on long-term plans for capital improvements, fundraising, programming for youth, developing community partnerships, and designing a sustainable framework for managing the property.

Current funding for construction of this project stands at $5.5 million. The property will be developed in phases with phase I being site and utility works and an approximately 5,600 square foot building.

An architectural services agreement with Mullen Heller Architecture, PC was approved by the County Commission in November of 2018.
