The Bernalillo County’s Office of Health and Social Services will be providing free and nutritious meals from May 29 through Aug. 2 at locations throughout the county for youth aged one - 18 years. No registration is required in order to receive a meal.

Bernalillo County Treasurer Begins Local Community Investment Initiative
Bernalillo County Treasurer Nancy M. Bearce announces the establishment of a Local Community Investment Initiative (LCII) on June 5, 2019. The program invests county funds to local banks at a competitive rate of return. The banks, in turn, lend the money to local businesses and residents. This in turn would inject capital into our local community to continue stimulating our local economy.
BernCo Adds 15 New Land Management Positions as Part of Glyphosate Replacement Option
The Board of Commissioners approved the hiring of 15 new full-time employees for the Bernalillo County Parks, Recreation, & Open Space Department, Land Management Section, budgeting $1.06 million for the glyphosate replacement initiative. The new positions will assist with the projected changes needed for the implementation of a plan to halt the usage of the chemical glyphosate for weed eradication in the county.
BernCo Seeks Input on Naming Future Headquarters
Bernalillo County is seeking public input on the name of its future flagship offices, located at 415 Silver SW in Downtown Albuquerque. The public is able to comment on proposed names for the new flagship headquarters. Several names are listed on BernCo.gov for comment, and residents can make recommendations for other names. The Board of County Commissioners will decide the final name after public comments end.

Bernalillo County’s 2019 Summer Lunch Program will begin Wednesday, May 29 and will run until Aug. 2. BernCo will provide nearly 150,000 meals this year. No registration is required for the program. Program Rules: - Participants must be one to 18 years of age to receive a meal. - Meals or individual food items cannot be taken from the site. - Participants must receive an entire meal, including milk. - All meals are issued on a first come, first served basis.

Bernalillo County's four swimming pools plus the Alameda Spray Park will open Saturday, May 25 at noon. The South Valley Pool and Splash Pad will be featuring a new look as phase II of a renovation project is now complete. The pool now has a new entrance, bathhouse, shade areas, parking lot and updated landscaping. The outdoor pools and spray parks will close for the season on August 2. Swimming is year-round at Rio Grande indoor pool.

Bernalillo County is looking for original artwork submissions for two major events, the Bosque Chile Festival’s Ristra Run and the Sugar Skull Fun Run, both happening later this year. The call for art is open to New Mexico professional and amateur artists of all ages. The artwork selected for each event will be showcased on promotional materials, t-shirts, and social media.

On May 1, the Bernalillo County Assessor’s Office sent out 2019 notice of value (NOV) statements to business owners regarding their business personal property, and to owners of livestock. The notice of value will inform recipients of the assessed value of their personal property as of Jan. 1. While this is not a bill, the Bernalillo County treasurer will use the listed values to calculate property tax bills that will be mailed to property owners in November later this year. If a property owner disagrees with the county assessor’s valuation on their business personal property or livestock, they will have until Thursday, May 30 to file a protest form with the county Assessor’s Office.
