The Bernalillo County’s Office of Health and Social Services will be providing free and nutritious meals from May 29 through Aug. 2 at locations throughout the county for youth aged one - 18 years. No registration is required in order to receive a meal.

Bernalillo County fire officials are urging caution this holiday weekend for anyone using fireworks to celebrate. Fireworks are permitted within the unincorporated areas of Bernalillo County, outside the city limits, but must fit certain guidelines.

Bernalillo County’s 2019 Summer Lunch Program will begin Wednesday, May 29 and will run until Aug. 2. BernCo will provide nearly 150,000 meals this year. No registration is required for the program. Program Rules: - Participants must be one to 18 years of age to receive a meal. - Meals or individual food items cannot be taken from the site. - Participants must receive an entire meal, including milk. - All meals are issued on a first come, first served basis.

Bernalillo County's four swimming pools plus the Alameda Spray Park will open Saturday, May 25 at noon. The South Valley Pool and Splash Pad will be featuring a new look as phase II of a renovation project is now complete. The pool now has a new entrance, bathhouse, shade areas, parking lot and updated landscaping. The outdoor pools and spray parks will close for the season on August 2. Swimming is year-round at Rio Grande indoor pool.

The “Take a Ride on Us” Program featuring discounted Uber rides is back for Memorial Day Weekend and ABQ Beer Week From noon on May 24 through 3 a.m. on June 2, customers need to download the Uber app and use the code ABQMEMORIAL19. By using the code, riders will receive a credit of up to $10 off for up to two trips. The maximum number of trips available is 3,000. First-come, first-served. The credit can only be used for rides, not Uber Eats, and the discount does not cover tip.

Bernalillo County is hosting two youth dance camps, “Youth Beat” and “Dance It Up,” May 28–31 at the South Valley Multipurpose Center, 2008 Larrazolo Road SW. Youth Beat and Dance It Up provide four days of dancing fun to youth, with music from hip-hop to jazz. After each camp, groups will have an opportunity to perform their routines on June 8.

Bernalillo County and the City of Albuquerque are once again collaborating on a behavioral health-focused project through the Behavioral Health Initiative. Today they announced the Single-Site Housing Project, which they will collectively fund up to $5 million. Bernalillo County will be contributing $1 Million annually for services and $2 million one-time dollars for capital investments. The City of Albuquerque’s one-time funding contribution of $2 million will help cover construction costs, along with the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority’s contributions of more than $4 million to the project.

Bernalillo County is looking for original artwork submissions for two major events, the Bosque Chile Festival’s Ristra Run and the Sugar Skull Fun Run, both happening later this year. The call for art is open to New Mexico professional and amateur artists of all ages. The artwork selected for each event will be showcased on promotional materials, t-shirts, and social media.

On May 1, the Bernalillo County Assessor’s Office sent out 2019 notice of value (NOV) statements to business owners regarding their business personal property, and to owners of livestock. The notice of value will inform recipients of the assessed value of their personal property as of Jan. 1. While this is not a bill, the Bernalillo County treasurer will use the listed values to calculate property tax bills that will be mailed to property owners in November later this year. If a property owner disagrees with the county assessor’s valuation on their business personal property or livestock, they will have until Thursday, May 30 to file a protest form with the county Assessor’s Office.

Bernalillo County and the City of Albuquerque have joined together in an effort to get a more complete count for the 2020 census. As part of that consolidation a census committee is being formed with members approved by both government agencies to develop more efficient and accurate ways to count every person in Bernalillo County, including difficult to count populations such as the homeless or temporary residents in outlying areas.
